Biography of the Family Kusel

written by Daniel Hirsch, a descendant of Rosa Kusel (born Hirsch)'s uncle Jakob Hirsch

Here lived Rosa Kusel (born Hirsch), daughters Paula & Betty, and granddaughter Ilse Rosa. All four were murdered in the Shoa. After the evacuation of Pirmasens in 1939, they were sent to Halle. Rosa (age 68) and Paula (age 34) lived in several Jewish ghetto houses in Halle from 1940-1942 until they were deported to Sobibor extermination camp. Ilse Rosa (age 2) and her mother Betty (age 31) left Halle for Berlin, where Betty worked at the Siemens-Schuckert electrical engineering company, likely as a forced laborer. A year and a half later, Ilse Rosa (now age 4) ended up in the care of the Neu-Isenberg home of the Jewish Women's Association near Frankfurt. This is the same institution where Rosa Ilse was born in 1937 to her unmarried mother Betty. After the institution's forced closure in February 1942, Rosa Ilse was transferred back to Berlin to the children's home at Fehrbelliner Strasse 92, only a short distance from where her mother Betty was living. >> weiterlesen
